it was amazing

I was very excited to receive an early copy of this book. I love folktale retellings and Baba Yaga is a favourite of mine.

And, wow, this book is wonderful. It's a very different take on the Baba Yaga story, borrowing the traditional elements and weaving them into something entirely new and unexpected. The writing is gorgeous. It feels completely effortless to read (which is very difficult to achieve), verging on poetic at times, with exactly the right amount of description to bring characters and settings to life. Marinka is the best kind of heroine, and the house! The house doesn't just have chicken legs, it has a personality the size of a planet.

A spellbinding tale, beautifully told and full of heart. Pure magic.
