The first time I read this book I cried and cried and cried. Something was so so so terribly tragic about it when I was 11 that I couldn't put it down, but absolutely hated that it made me feel. Reading it this time, I realized (10 years later) that I hated it so much because so much of what Billie went through resonated with my deepest fears.
I loved how strong Billie is throughout the story. I really liked that it was all written in free verse. I think it's a great exposure to poetry, history, and narrative all wrapped up in one emotional journey.
