This book is written in first person and the main character is a *bit* of a pothead. It starts off with a lot of silliness as we get to know him and his offbeat friends. About halfway through the plot takes off and grabbed my attention, holding it all the way to the great twist at the end. The mystery kept me guessing and I enjoyed the direction the story took.

Unfortunately, for me, the author uses far too many analogies and similes in his writing. These are completely unnecessary, as his writing is otherwise very strong. My favorite parts were when he relied on sparse sentences to carry him through. The constant analogies distracted me and also detracted from an otherwise great story.
