it was amazing
bookshelves: history-politics

Incredible memoir of Cheng's experience through the Cultural Revolution, when she was wrongly imprisoned for nearly 7 years. She blends a great, accessible history of the era with a compelling story of survival. While imprisoned, she was beaten and demanded to confess. Instead, she studied Mao's works and cited them back to her interrogators. This will stick with me a long time.
