really liked it
bookshelves: youngadult, my-choice

This book has been chosen as the All Henrico Reads middle school novel for the 2008-2009 school year. While it is a great book, I'm not sure that it was the best choice for All Henrico Reads. It is very definitely a "girl" book, and may not attract young male readers. It was very much about character development and introspection, with not much action. There is a prominent young male character, but he is not the center of the story and becomes a romantic interest for the female narrator. That said, I think girls will like it. Themes of interest include international adoption and civil war in an unnamed South American country. Spanish phrases are sprinkled throughout. There is no glossary, but most of them are repeated in English immediately following.
