it was amazing

Wow. Along the way, as she describes her heartfelt, years long pursuit of service to the poor and displaced, Mayfield has done a bang up job of also describing the seedy underbelly of current American evangelical thought, as only an insider can. The subtle hierarchies of serving/being served and unsubtle ones of saved/unsaved and male/female have so permeated my own past in the church. It is admirable that she has stayed engaged with the poor, the dispossessed, the cockroaches, and the church, all the while mining the deepest truths of her place in the world. I hope to read more of her work.
