This book is about the trifling experience that a man goes through as he dares to compete in one of the most dangerous and challenging dog sled races, “The Iditarod.” Winterdance, based on Paulsen’s experience, takes place in Alaska. The Iditarod starts in Anchorage and ends in Nome, making the race about 1150 miles long. This book had me laughing, had me on the edge of my seat and had me wanting to cry. Paulsen’s take on nature and its many beautiful creatures makes for an entertaining read and by the end of the book I wanted to go to Alaska to see this magnificent race that very few people finish without injuries.
