it was ok
bookshelves: historical-fiction, literary-and-general-fiction, read-in-part
Recommended for: Jobless with time on hands, people really determined to read Man Booker shortlist books

I gave up on trying to get all the way through this, because the sad fact of the matter is that it was just too bloated and meandering to hold my interest. I skimmed probably the last hundred pages or so, and it just gets creepier and creepier with all the incest and Victorianly tacit free love between creepy people.

I should add that I was disappointed, because I really enjoyed two of her other books I'd read, Elementals: Stories of Fire and Ice and Possession.
