it was amazing
bookshelves: words-and-pictures, age-juvenile-fiction, age-middle-school, scary

A super-shivery book that is perfect for fall booktalks. It's got an old orphanage, two lonely girls, a secret diary, allusions to The Secret Garden, and LOTS of creepy dolls. The story is told alternately through the diary (past), and in a visual narrative (present - black, white, and gray paintings). If you like Brian Selznick's books, you'll be on board for this one.
