really liked it

I received this book from net galley for an honest review. Thank you!!

I have been reading the Highlander Isle series and this book did not disappoint! It was a good and enjoyable read and follows Mairi, who was introduced in the previous books as Tor's sister.
Mairi Maclean was married to the old MacInnes chief before her father died to keep the peace between their clans. She is rash and speaks her mind. She agrees to marry the new MacInnes chief, as a way to keep peace since women during this time are used more as bargaining chips. On the day of her wedding, she is kidnapped by Alec MacNeil and taken to Kisimul Castle.
Alec wants revenge for his murdered wife by the MacInnes chief and takes Mairi. He says she will marry him and when she refuses, he puts her in the dungeon. Alec is a stubborn and strong man. He knows his children need a mother and his castle needs looking after since many believe Kisimul Castle is cursed.
However, Mairi will not marry him. She becomes friendly with his children and they both help each other while she is in the dungeon. Mairi begins to form a bond with them and they both like her. When Alec finds out, he decides to change tactics in having Mairi marry him, but she does not give in.
When visitors come to Kisimul Castle, to avoid bloodshed, Mairi tells them she is Alec's fiance. They keep up the rouse and Alec tries to gain Mairi's affection. Both are attracted to each other but Mairi does not want the marriage she has with her first husband, but Alec is a different man. When Mairi finds out something that Alec did, she is very angry and hurt since she cares for Alec. Alec is also angry since he truly cares for Mairi and does want to marry her, but not for revenge. When new information becomes available about the MacInnes, Alec begins to wonder why his wife was really murdered and if the MacInnes chief did really kill her. This leads to a betrayal and a hidden plot for Kisimul Castle. Will they be able to stop the plot against Kisimul Castle and be able to move forward from their pasts to the love they could now have with the other?
