I didn’t like this as much as Blundell’s prior work, What I Saw and How I Lied (which is fantastic, I highly recommend it). The book does have the same snappy, fun dialogue and the 1950s chorus girl/gangster setup is well done. I love Blundell’s writing style and the time periods she chooses. However, for some reason, I just couldn’t get into these characters. Plus there is no real growth for anyone, particularly not Kit. At the end of the book you look at what she went through and where she ended up and think, huh, was all that stuff really necessary? And the mystery angle is a bit of a letdown. I’ll continue to read books from this writer as I love her style, this just felt like a bit of a slog.
