I am very fortune to have received 'The Foremost Good Fortune" written by Susan Conley through a First Reads Giveaway. I have had an interest in the far east, having visited China and Hong Kong in 2000 while my daughter studied in Hong Kong that year.

This is a real-life story about a family that moved to China, as told by the mother. The father has had an interest in China since college when he spent some time there and is happy he can relocate his family to China for work purposes. The mother tells the story of the trails and tribulations of raising two children in a country with very different customs and a language they do not speak and is very different from their own.

During the course of her story, the mother is diagnosed with breast cancer and goes home to the U.S. for treatment. When she return home to China with the treatment finished, she again has to adjust to life in China.

This is a very interesting story; the story of a mother with courage, enthusiasm and love for her family. It is told with humor and grace and was very informative, as well.
