really liked it

Overall I enjoyed this book very much. It was a great follow-up to Master and Commander. I enjoy learning about sailing and the life of the time period as well as the slang, even though the slang sometimes makes the book difficult to follow. My biggest complaint is the time spent on the personal relationships of Aubrey and Maturin. I felt as if I was reading Jane Austen. For those who love Jane Austen, that is a good thing. I would not be one of those people. I would have preferred more time spent on Jack and Stephen's trip through Europe. What was up with the bear costume and with Jack's serious illness? We never found out. Instead we got to spend pages on Sophie and Diana! Oh, yippee-Not! Still, even with my complaint on that subject, I would still recommend the book to those who enjoy sailing books, Jane Austen, Master and Commander and/or historical fiction.
