really liked it
bookshelves: indie

"Momentary Lapses into Sanity" is a collection of flash fiction stories with a largely sci-fi bent. Most of them are crafted like a joke, with a paragraph or two of set-up before the kicker arrives (which is sometimes also the punchline--and a lot of the stories are amusing). The tone is the same sort of introspective, whimsical detachment that you would find in a Wes Anderson movie.

If I have any complaint, it's the format itself. Flash fiction is designed to tell a story in only a few paragraphs. Hamilton does it well, but sometimes I wished that these ideas were fleshed out in a longer format.
