Well, review, now…

After the end I’m not sure how to place this book anymore, so I’m having a hard time to find a beginning for this review. The book starts with Clara’s vision of finding a man in the woods, where a huge fire burns. She instantly knows that she has to find and rescue him. That has bugged me from the very first page, because someone who’s afraid of his surroundings and needs rescuing from a fire doesn’t stands there watching it.

But anyway, apart from this I started to love this book in the process. That’s mostly because of Cynthia Hand’s beautiful writing, which makes you almost feel the world she describes around you. Also, there is Tucker, who I wanted to marry from the very beginning <3 Every scene with him is a highlight, even though Clara is blind a long, long time about him.

I guess I might like the angel world, Cynthia created. I don’t know jet, because even after a whole book about I still have no clue what this is all about, what is sad, really. This book had so much potential, but it feels as if it’s not utilized. There’s Clara’s mom, who’s an angel, or part angel, herself, but she never explains anything apart from: you have a purpose und it’s the one thing you were put on earth to fulfill that purpose. Well, okay? That seems as if a part-angel has no other right to be on earth? Really weird, especially since it is never explained.

Then there’s the ending which is even weirder. The whole book led to the point where Clara has to fulfill her purpose (what she thinks is to save Christian from this fire) and she failed, because instead of saving Christian she flies off to save Tucker. After all that was said about her purpose in the book, I really expected her to drop dead because she did that, which (obviously) didn’t happen. But instead of an end-explanation about purposes in general and hers in specific there was just… nothing. Book end. Please wait for the next one and try to not go insane in the meantime.

What really infuriates me is, that this isn’t even an cliffhanger ending (which I hate too, mind me), it is just very dissatisfying to not even have a small explanation about what this whole angel/purpose thing is all about. Therefore only 4 stars, because until the end, I really enjoyed reading this book and couldn’t put it down by the life of me.
