The third Riverworld book. I have the same stylistic criticisms as with the others. The characters' speech is stilted at times, with almost no variety; one woman character and fictional at that (as if there were no exceptional women in history to choose from!); and just too many of Farmer's own meandering observations on life (as if this is the setting for those musings). On the other hand, a wickedly devious plot, much action throughout, and a suspenseful, cliffhanger ending. Guess I'll keep reading...
