it was ok

I liked Krauss's first novel, A History of Love, so I picked this up. On the whole, I liked this a lot less. It's full of tiresome people with tiresome problems, or else people with heartbreaking problems who come off as pretty standard "people in novels with sad problems." The book felt both blandly generic as a "literary novel" and also featured a number of scenes with weird specifics that didn't seem to contribute much to the narrative.

Not terrible, but not very engaging either. There's nothing special about this novel.
