really liked it

To have the world without scientific development is not to have a better world or a worse world-just a different world from the one we know.

Just so you know, I'm not a huge Stephenson fan....too many punishing tangents for my personal taste. With Nicole Galland as a co-author I figured the side trips might be reduced. And for the most part they were, there are still a few spots that I felt weren't necessary to the overall story but nothing that took me completely out of the flow.

Set in an alternate world where centuries ago magic and witches were known and accepted, the story starts in current times with an attempt to bring magic back in to the world. (Seems there was an event in the past that eliminated magic from the world.)

Quantum mechanics...
Schrödinger's cat...
1640 Cambridge, America...
1560 Antwerp...
1601 London...
1203 Constantinople...
1850 San Fransisco...
1851 London...
1045 Normandy...

all mixed together for a interesting take on magic and time travel.

Gregoire I'm not a huge fan of dystopia or time travel stories but maybe this one .will be the exception Thanks for your review

Ctgt Time travel doesn't usually work for me either but I enjoyed this story more than I anticipated. Hope you like it.

Bryan Alexander Sounds a bit like Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

Michael David Cobb Not really. It's more like Stargate seeks all Stranges in human history in order to save the world from the Commie Stargate which may or may not exist, depending upon whether or not they undid some of our history.

Ctgt The missing magic part is somewhat similar but there is a Cold War era type thread that runs behind the scenes.
