I read this book for Category Fiction. Overall it was a good story given the gravity of the protagonist's situation. I felt the characters were a little two dimensional for my tastes, but I'm not the target audience either. Even so, I've told my 9 year old about this book. She would probably enjoy it a lot because it's not a saccharine children's story and the characters have tough choices to make. It's very much an ethics kind of story in that it's hard for people, kids especially, to make good decisions when they are facing homelessness and broken families. But the ending had poetic justice, so I gave it three stars even though I thought there was a latent feel of "author's convenience" in some of the chapters.
