I'm fascinated to read novels based on real life stories. In Goodnight from London, based on the author's grandmother, presentation of the unexpected past added intrigue and suspense that caught my breath.
An emotional read of a traumatic time in history, I cared about Ruby Sutton from her initial introduction. A likeable protagonist, she proves a capable journalist and welcome addition to the staff of her new London position. Relational dynamics run high and low as Ruby grows in confidence and courage while facing the losses she sustains. The romantic element is a warm and tangible contribution without taking over the storytelling.
A pleasure to read this WWII novel and a worthy addition to this Canadian author's repertoire.
