It truly would have been a moving book, if Annie had added and ruminated more on both the happenings and personal connections with the flora and fauna and landscape in which she sought to surround herself.

I wished Annie had conveyed the depth of her longing; a bit of Diane Ackerman or Bernd Heinrich mix with a wash of Emily Dickinson would have been magic. As it was, I have a decent book that catalogued Annie's homesteading and woeful winter departure.
