it was amazing
bookshelves: crime-noir, contemporary-fiction, rereading, jim-thompson

The 1990 movie starring Angelica Houston, John Cusack and Annette Bening is one of my total favorites and I was not disappointed in the least with its source material, this terrific 1963 crime noir from Jim Thompson. If anything it's far more complex and boasts a whole layer of existential angst that the movie could only hint at. The story is gritty and involving from the first page all the way through to its devastating final denouement: I gulped it all down in a few hours and a most satisfying gulp it was. *Reread Aug 2014. Still awesome.*
