it was ok

I read this book for a work genre study. I don't normally pick up Christian Fiction on my own so this was a nice way to expose me to a book outside my comfort zone.

The characters are what made this book interesting for me. I didn't find the subject matter compelling but the characters came alive in their descriptions and their faith. Mary-Margaret was spunky and likeable and Jude, while tortured, was easy to be drawn to.

The one major gripe I had with this book was the timeline. I realize that it was a device the author used to convey the mental state of Mary-Margaret in her old age but it wasn't executed as seamlessly as I would have hoped. The story jumped multiple times each chapter and it was jarring to me as the reader to have to switch gears so sharply.

More than likely I won't return to this genre unless I have to but it was nice to have the experience.
