Great Book. This story takes place in France and is told from the point of view of the two main characters, Rene, the conceirge of an apartment complex for wealthy families and Paloma a twelve year old who is planning to commit suicide on her thirteenth birthday. Both characters are extremely private and intelligent and eventually become friends. With an affinity for Art, Philosophy, Music and Japenese culture and the ability to quote her favorite authors from Tolstoy to Eminem, Renee is viewed by the tenants as a grouchy old concierge. Paloma is a young genius who is constatntly trying to avoid her family. This book was great and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read literary fiction. It's well written, smart and quite humorous.
