really liked it

4.5 stars
this novel by Matthew Williams was so much more than just a simple “horror’ story to me. The writing is so good… strong and passionate and intelligent narrative that makes you really believe in the story and the characters. And I’m not easily impressed. Definitely shocked me on more than one occasion. And I’m not easily shocked. The books starts off in 1629 with an event that essentially sets the scene for the events that happen now(ish) and approx 30-40 years ago. The timeline of events gets a tad murky for me on occasion but it’s not that bad, in fact it’s pretty cool to see how it’s all connected and ties together in the end… and how it’s not over yet!! Overall the plot had more depth and complexity than I anticipated, and the ending truly shocked me. Certainly worth a read, and I’m interested in reading more from Williams in the near future.
