It's rare in novels for a sequel to actually be better then it's predecessor. But Red definitely towers over its brother Black. I must say that suffering through Black was more then worth it for this book. The writing is better, the characters are more realistic, and it has zombies!

One thing that is an immediately noticable difference from Black is the extreme amounts of blood, violence, and action. And let me tell you that Ted Dekker does a masterful job of lacing these parts together to create a beautifully woven story. But the writing is still far from legendary, but by no means atrocious. It should also be mentioned that the theological aspects seem to be more biblical also. This book was difficult to put down and I'm quite pumped about the third book in the series White.
