really liked it

A chronicle of the 1949 baseball season focusing on the pennant race between the Yankees and Red Sox. It also uses the season as a backdrop to describe American Life in 1949, which is no surprise considering Halberstam's background as a historian. The description of the juxtaposition between Williams and DiMAggio is particularly recommended. Very enjoyable.
