really liked it

As I read this book I was reminded of the author's earliest novels and anxiously turned each page.

Set in 1947 Maine, Grace Holland is expecting her third child. Her husband Gene is a good provider but, not a loving partner. As the novel opens massive fires have hit the area and while Gene is out helping fight the fires, Grace and the children flee their bungalow and head to the shore.

Devastated by the loss of home and the disappearance of her husband after the fires, Grace and children must find a way to rebuild their lives.

Good character development and a story that held my interest. There is a bit of history (based on actual fires in Maine 1947), a bit of romance and a tad of mystery as well. I enjoyed it.
