This reminded me so very much of Dandelion Wine and introduced The Illustrated Man (but in a much more scary context here). As a dream-like exploration of childhood fears and gravitation towards adventure and danger, it is quite lovely, but the adventures at the dreadful carnival - with its frightening mirror mazes, age-defying carousel and REAL witch - span nearly 300 pages, and tried my patience a little as a result. It's a fugue state that beyond a certain span of time becomes annoying to remain stuck in.

What I find a mystery is why I own this book... it's been sitting on my shelf for quite a number of years, and I have no idea who bought or acquired it!
