Brand is incredibly witty and a terrific writer. Consider this excerpt about dolphins, "Marble ghosts that embody grace. Among them we all become silent and transfixed, somewhere between a funeral and a firework display. These are the moments where one fells proximity to truth, where the supernatural becomes tangible. The ocean is not for humans."
