Shannon Mayer's Venom trilogy is a fun and entertaining romp featuring a crazy mixed up cast of Greek gods, vampires, snake monsters and warlocks. It's a mash up of every type of supernatural universe you can think of, and there are no rules as such.

Shannon never really bothers to delve into the back story of the world, it all just sort of exists... accept it. She focuses on the main character's journey of self discovery, which is fine, but for all that the plot is engaging, it does feel a bit hollow. There's no believable sense that the story is happening in a real world because there are too many vagaries and unanswered questions. Away from the characters and what's happening at any given moment it all sort of blurs away at the edges.

As such, for serious fantasy or supernatural fans this trilogy doesn't really have the depth and substance to be a great read, but it's fun all the same.
