Excellent writer, great story

When I read a novel, I always hope that the author will help me to understand human nature. This novel meets that expectation, but surprisingly, it akso helped nevto underdtand my father, who served in the Submarine Corps in WW II. It helped me un
derstand all those latenight conversations around the kitchen table, hours and hours about the War and the Depression. Horror reshapes people, but not in the ways contemporary culture thinks. There is something worse than experiencing horror.
I also found that without preaching the political/social definition of diversity, it taught me how culture shapes the definitions is words and ideas. Without advocating for emperor worship, this author portrays the Japanese as something other than monsters.
I tecommend this book to all aspiring novelists. It sets a high standard.
