This is the story of a young man and his journey to a better life for himself and for the people he cares for. Coming from a dysfunctional family, physically abused by his father and having limited access to the proper means for a decent living, William works very hard in overcoming these challenging conditions. He is gifted with a talent for sculpture, is self-taught and permanently looking to improve his skills. This book is also about his sexuality, that's why an important part concerns the relationships with the men he becomes involved. His sexual experiences are detailed in a direct manner, not in any way romanticized. It's not a romance story, albeit William's quest for that "someone special" is a consistent motif throughout this novel.
