it was amazing
Read from May 12 to 16, 2017

Amazing, powerful, beautiful, lean, exquisite sentences. Strout pulls us into the world of Lucy Barton raised poor, abused, in a challenging, difficult home in Iowa - as an adult, she becomes an author and finds herself hospitalized. Her estranged mother comes to stay with her in the hospital for several days and the ensuing conversations between mother and daughter reveal layers of love and torment. My only complaint? It was too short. :-)
