it was amazing
bookshelves: art

Oppenheim's work was of extreme interest to me in the 1970s. Along w/ that of Vito Acconci & Chris Burden, these were the big 3 whose work seemed to most intensively explore installation, video work, body art, &, in Oppenheim's case, earthworks - all very fresh forms at the time. Alas, eventually I saw one or more of Oppenheim's video pieces & my opinion of him plummeted - putting him precariously close to the Emperor's New Clothes category that's the bottom of my scale. Still, though, the work looks really, really amazing in bk form (wch is the only way I've been able to experience it other than in the aforementioned video & one audio piece) & he'll always have a special place in my heART.
