It has its moments. But I was getting tired of the narrator's endless fascination with herself long before the end of the book, and the constant references back to Darwin finally seemed to be not much more than a painfully contrived literary conceit. There are some deliciously descriptive passages of family life, of the narrator's childhood in a family that loved, understood, and indulged her idiosyncrasies.
