it was amazing

I was lucky enough to win an Arc from the author on twitter.

Mid year but this is definitely a contender for me for both best debut and best fantasy book.
A really well written book. Old school in many ways , with a medieval setting, sorcerors , assassins, knights and queens but what makes this great is its main character and its focus on the periphery of the usual heroes such as the jesters and the stable hands.
A lot of fantasy gets bogged down in multiple POVs and dense back stories for characters , here Barker does what Rothfuss does and presents us with one intriguing character and develops them fabulously . Girton is a great lead and his development throughout is skillfully worked.
The plot and twists of the story itself are great and I didnt see several big turning points coming.
Definitely one for those not fortunate enough to win or beg an ARC to pick up as soon as possible and I already await the follow up.
