Read this so long ago my review shouldn't be trusted. I do recall being very surprised to find myself enjoying a book by Aldous Huxley (what kind of name is that, anyway? can you imagine calling a little bit of a baby "Aldous" ? awful) of all people (I'm not a "Brave New World" or apocalyptic kind of girl). I read this about the same time as I did "The Horse's Mouth" by Joyce Carey and somehow the books are connected in my mind - it could be that Crome is basking in the Horse's glow, though, so don't blame me if you don't like it. I seem to remember it being quite funny.
