Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World

Do you ever notice how the books written by people who talk about the writing process as a mechanical one are the most mediocre books? Hmm. Well, there's not much new here. Read the Erickson Peak book or the Flow book (can't pronounce that guy's name) or the countless other books (like the Shallows) about distraction and technology and you can skip this one. But that's not to say there aren't some helpful insights in here. Here are a few:
1. Quit all social media for a month and see if you miss it and which ones you miss. (but please don't tell people that you're quitting Facebook. That's the stupidest thing)
2. Schedule your internet breaks and don't even go searching for documents unless it's the allotted time. He wants you to schedule your entire day, but homey don't play that.
3. His insights on emails were great! I hate email so much. And he's given me license to basically ignore some of it, tell other people that I won't be writing them back, and then deal with the ones you have to deal with quickly and thoroughly.
I still wonder about the utility of Facebook for me. I can come up with a lot better arguments to stay on than he did. I wonder if he was using it right (right being of course, reading the cool articles your smart friends have culled for you).

Curious to know more about your comments wrt Facebook -- I joined and abandoned after less than 2 years about 10 years ago because it seemed destructive of actual relationships with people I want to speak to on the phone or see in person.
