really liked it
bookshelves: 2011, young-adult, 1st-person-mystery

This book is considered YA, I am guessing because all the characters are teenagers. But I would not classify this as a YA novel. The themes in the story are classic. Personal struggles of survival, with others, with the situation, with yourself.

Teens are trapped in a high school when a gigantic winter snowstorm rages. 18 feet of snow, no one knows they are there, no cell phones work, the building loses power. How do they cope?

I liked that the characters all seemed very genuine, not exaggerated stereotypes. Their actions were expected in the circumstances. Maybe they were a bit naive, but a lot of people are once they are in a crisis situation.
I especially enjoyed the ending. There was not the denouement you may expect, but the ending was perfect in my eyes.

Good story, don't let the YA branding keep you from reading this.
