On My Honor is a short young adult novel and a quick read. The plot takes place during the course of only one day and concerns the accidental drowning of Joel's best friend, Tony, and Joel's subsequent grief and guilt. While I think that this story is a good cautionary tale for pre-teens and young teens, I found myself wishing that there were more to it. For example: How did Tony's parents react to Joel once they found out the details of what happened; did they say anything to Joel to help ease his guilt? How did Joel's life/behavior change as a result of Tony's death? I guess I wish the book would have followed Joel and the boys' families for longer than one day. Otherwise, a good story that hopefully will make some kids stop and think about the potential consequences to their choices.
