Disappointing. Seems his agent or publisher has talked Joseph Finder into moving away from his groove in business/finance intrigue and go the route of the serial super stud. Nick Heller, introduced in the mildly better "Vanished," is the flawed, crackerjack macho know-it-all that seems so easy to write. (Why else would so many authors use the same character?)

Finder was wonderful out of the box with some great business thrillers: "Paranoia," "Company Man," and "Killer Instinct." They delighted us in the early 2000's. But Finder seems to have gone the way of another denizen of this niche, Stephen Frey. Perhaps the financial hooliganism of the past few years as made fiction in this sphere seem too tame ... or perhaps it is just tougher to draw strong nuanced characters.
