An entertaining and informative chronicle of the writer's five trips to Siberia over the last 16 years. Most interesting are his trips across the length of it in a busted van with a couple of intriguing people. Rich with history and interesting facts, the book has many interesting characters and adventures. It serves to document how Russia has grown and changed over the last couple of decades. At times, though, it is a bit long and dry, but there's always something interesting around the bend (or, as the case may be, another two hundred miles down the road).
