S.J. Bolton doesn't disappoint. Creepy, fast-paced, with a narrative that grabs you from the opening. She always has some tie in to British folklore or history, in this case Jack the Ripper. I have a few quibbles: a now-formulaic romance element, some unlikely (to me) police procedure, and unnecessarily graphic descriptions of brutality. Besides the main character, her characters are mostly place-holders without a lot of development. But plot-heavy can be fun and this is a good summer swift read, with some interesting theories of the original Jack the Ripper case.
