I was really hoping that when I entered this in the GoodReads database that it wd already be there. After all, Rob gets around, this is a substantial bk, it's a strong 1st-hand acct of philosophical lifetstyle musings that seem valuable to me. But, no, it seems that most people on GoodReads are reading & reviewing more mainstream stuff. It appears that a disproportionate amt of the bks I cover here are too far off the map for most GoodReads readers. As such, I feel motivated to call people's attn to them. & this bk is a good case in point. I don't really know when this was published but it must've been sometime between 2003 (when some of it was written) & 2006 (when I got it). I tried to credit the bk to "rOBNOXIOUS" but the GoodReads 'idiot-proofing' idioted it.
I'm acquainted w/ Rob, I wdn't exactly call us friends b/c we don't stay in touch, but I certainly like him. He made a bicycle-powered boat that I rode on for a day or so w/ him when I joined a flotilla of such boats going down the entire Ohio River in the summer of 2006. He gave me this bk when I offered to trade him something of mine. Right there, you get an idea of the type of culture I'm talking about here: a barter culture, a culture that tries to get away from money & back to person-to-person respect.
If you're a reader who can't understand why someone might live in their car or dumpster-dive or be dirty or just generally stay away from mainstream American culture, then this bk can certainly help you learn how punk & zen & pacifism &.. all fit together. Rob's a good writer & will, I'm confident, continue to churn out these bks as he sensitively explores his way thru life. It's not always easy (to understate), but Rob explains it well w/o complaining too much. He calls himself "rOBNOXIOUS" but he also calls himself "robalicious". He was never obnoxious to me.
