it was amazing
bookshelves: politics
Read from August 09 to September 06, 2011

This is one of the best best pieces of political science I've encountered. It could be used as textbook for quantitative political research just as easily as it can be used for a thoughtful analysis of post-Soviet Russian politics.

One of the best characteristics about this work is the author's passion. There's a lot of authors out there who love to write, cite, and give their opinions. All too often though, they seem to enjoy bragging about what they've read more than the work they're doing. Not so with Fish. He's methodical, thorough, has plenty of first hand and on the ground experience with Russian politics to spread throughout the chapters, and writing style is easily approachable (even if you're not comfortable looking at stuff like multivariate regression or beta coefficients).

There's even a little room for political science junkies to get a few laughs in here, but I won't spoil them.
