bookshelves: cozy-mystery

This is the first book in the Gourmet Girl Mystery series. It is a little different from the other cozy mysteries I have read, with a younger, less serious protagonist. Chloe, is a 20-something woman, and is headed back to school for a graduate degree in order to get an inheritance. She has picked social work as her area, thinking it will be something she will enjoy. The program, students, and classes are not what she expected and she wonders how she will get through. After seeing her neighbor/boyfriend with another woman, she begins online dating hoping to find someone who matches her love for food. She has a dismal first date at a new restaurant, particularly when her boorish date ends up dead. Chloe gets dragged into going to the funeral when his parents think that she is his fiancee. There she meets Josh, an up and coming chef who she thinks may be a candidate for romance. When Josh ends up being a suspect, Chloe works to find out the truth, even dragging the case to her talk therapy class to get help. This was a light, breezy mystery, with a lot of humor and I am curious to see how the series develops. It also includes some of the recipes mentioned in the story.
