I love the idea of the drowning pool and 'troublesome women', so INTO THE WATER was a must-read for me. Certainly, there's a lot to commend it: Hawkins' clever prose encapsulates clever and topical elements of culpability; appropriation; respinsibility; feminism; misogyny; patriarchy and and more. The rural setting is authentic and visual, plus there is a diverse cast of characters. But ultimately for me there were too many voices, so I felt I didn't really invest in any of them. That said I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fans of topical and dark, domestic noir.
