If you can get past all the butchery meat metaphors and cheesy references to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, you are left with a book about the author’s affairs (oh and some random travel stories and recipes are included too..). So, she talks about cheating on her husband, her obsession with her lover and random one night stands, but I never really understood why she butchers her marriage. It was hard to understand why she wrote the book- seems like she never really shares why she cheats (marriage is boring when you marry a nice guy?) She just doesn’t give depth to why she has the affairs, which makes reading about the discretions superfluous.

Also, I pretty much skipped the enter Part II of the book- the stories about her travels didn’t seem to fit in the outline of the rest of the book and were…well, boring.

Ok- so the book is majorly flawed, just like the author’s relationship…but there is one redeeming quality- Julie Powell is a good writer. Maybe she just shouldn’t write about ‘marriage, meat and obsession”.
