really liked it

This was a book that I read for a library book group and wasn't sure if I would be able to get through it. I loved that Donoghue told the story from five year old Jack's point of view. At first the language was hard to understand and I wasn't sure what he was talking about all time time. AFter a while I was able to follow along pretty quickly. Telling the story from Jack's point of view leaves out a lot of details that we would have gotten had the story been told from Ma's point of view but Donoghue works in enough conversation to fill in the gaps. I was surprised by how quick the escape was but enjoyed the details of life after the escape. In the end it was a bit of a feel good book that made you enjoy how the human spirit can triumph.
